A wordpress site is not too hard to set up, which is why I use it even when what I really want is a content management system. WordPress is good at handling both static pages and a blog, either or both. I suggest you do have a few static pages. There is a plug-in called WP Super-Cache which makes wordpress pages and blog posts load faster, but I don’t have it activated because I found it makes adding and changing things slower — and changes might not be visible for a while. So I don’t know why my site seems to load fast for you. I’m glad it does though. Hard to tell what other people at a distance will experience.

I suggest you get your site look plausible as soon as possible by just adding at least one new page and one new post, then deleting the samples they provide. The important thing, of course, is content. The more content you add and the more regularly you add it makes your site more important and easily found.

One key thing is to change your permalink format (see above any post for a button to let you change it). They should come out with date and post name, not just some meaningless number, which is the default. Why they make such a thing the default is beyond me.
